Professor Georgianna has been the Chancellor Professor of Economics, at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth since 1978. He received a B.S. in Mathematics from College of the Holy Cross at Worcester, MA and a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He is an expert in marine resource economics, comparative economic systems, and economic history and along with several journal articles and chapters in books, has authored the book The Strike of ’28. Professor Georgianna is also the President of the UMass Faculty Federation Local 1895, AFT, AFL-CIO, representing faculty and professional staff at UMass Dartmouth.
Additionally, he is on several policy organizations, including the Multispecies Overfishing Definition Committee of the New England Fishery Management Council, the Social Science Advisory Committee of the New England Management Council, the Winter Flounder Technical Committee of the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission, and the Vice-president of the Massachusetts Federation of Teachers. Among Professor Georgianna’s awards are the Yvonne Sandstroem University Science Award, the Chancellor’s Distinguished Service Award, the Leo Sullivan Teacher of the Year Award, and the Richard Fontera Memorial Award for Community Service.
