Mr. Barney is a retired administrator in the New Bedford Assessor’s Office, where he still works as a consultant. For 35 years, Mr. Barney worked for the City of New Bedford in various capacities, including in the Treasurer and Assessor’s Offices. He has been called the example of what a public servant, friendly and straight forward. He has also held the position of Chairman of the New Bedford Board of Assessors. Mr. Barney, who comes from a long line of Southcoast natives, grew up in the New Bedford area and has been active in his community for many years. Mr. Barney currently serves as the President of the historical Wamsutta Club in New Bedford. Additionally, Mr. Barney is a member of the National Narrow Gauge Railroad Hall of Fame and is an expert model builder and about railroad history.
